Like yoga and meditation before it, mindfulness seems to be having its moment in the spotlight. It is a buzzword in everything from medicine, the military, and education to sports, prisons, and therapy. Mark Coleman, who has studied mindfulness meditation with teachers in Asia, Europe, and the United States for decades, draws on his knowledge to clarify what mindfulness truly means. Weaving together up-to-the-minute neuroscience and practices based on teachings cultivated, studied, and put to practical use for millennia, his approach is actually a study of how to engage with and transform pain — in the body, from illnesses and injuries to death; in the heart, as we love and recognize our need for others; and in the mind, as we use our brains to compare, judge, and question and as we fail to understand our interconnectedness with the world. While deep, profound, and multilayered, the mindfulness Coleman teaches has proved effective in a wide variety of settings. In this inspiring evening, Mark Coleman will draw upon his experiences of teaching mindfulness to shine a light on its true promise of ending suffering and finding peace, while offering simple, yet powerful practices that can help you experience more presence, insight, and compassion in your daily life. From Suffering to Peace will help readers of all kinds access and benefit from the “true promise of mindfulness.”
Mark Coleman is the author of From Suffering to Peace, Make Peace with Your Mind, and Awake in the Wild. He is the founder of the Mindfulness Institute and has an MA in Clinical Psychology. Mark has guided students on five continents as a corporate consultant, counselor, meditation teacher, and wilderness guide.
