SUMMARY:Tricycle’s Meditation Group in April
DESCRIPTION:Tricycle’s Meditation Group is an offering for Tricycle subscribers that provides weekly meditations and small group discussions led by renowned Buddhist teachers. \nThis April\, meditation teacher Mark Coleman will offer a rich variety of mindfulness in nature practices. After each meditation\, we will reconvene for either breakout group discussions or a Q&A with Mark. The sessions will range from 45 minutes to an hour. \nHere is the schedule: \nMonday\, April 7\, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. ET \nMonday\, April 14\, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. ET \nTuesday\, April 21\, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. ET \nMonday\, April 28\, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. ET \nThe sessions are typically only for Tricycle subscribers\, but Tricycle is offering April’s sessions for free to Mark’s community. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Meditation and Psychotherapy: Learning from Nature
DESCRIPTION:Research shows that connection to nature can have a wide range of benefits\, such as improved attention\, memory\, mood\, social interactions\, happiness and wellbeing\, and reduced stress\, anxiety\, depression\, and chronic disease. Although human beings have evolved with nature\, benefit from nature\, and are part of nature\, modern society is increasingly alienated from the natural world and our environment is in crisis. Eco-anxiety and climate distress are having a significant impact on mental health\, especially among young people. \nMeditation and psychotherapy can be harnessed to improve our relationship to nature\, and nature can have a positive influence on how we meditate and do clinical work. This webinar series explores the importance of nature from a variety of perspectives—scientific\, therapeutic\, mindfulness\, and indigenous. Attendees will learn useful tools and strategies to help their patients realign with\, benefit from\, and support the natural world. Therapists will also have a chance to explore their own relationship to nature and environmental disruption. \nMark will be leading only the first session on April 4 and talking about “Mindfulness in Nature Practice – Pathways to Wonder\, Wisdom\, and Well-Being”. The talk will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session. \nWho Should Attend\n\nPrimary Care Physicians\nPsychologists\nSocial Workers\nCounselors\nFamily Therapists\nOthers\n\nLearning Objectives\nUpon completion of this activity\, participants will be able to: \n\nSummarize the research supporting the mental and physical health benefits of exposure to nature.\nTeach their patients mindfulness practices to enhance their sense of connection with nature in urban and rural settings.\nGuide patients with trauma to alleviate their distress by engaging safely and effectively with the natural world.\nEngage therapeutically with adults and youth who are experiencing eco-anxiety.\nIntegrate elements of indigenous wisdom into mindfulness practice.\nUnderstand and manage the clinician’s own emotional distress associated with climate change.\n\nLearn More and Register

Awareness illuminates experience\, which supports clarity\, understanding\, and insight. It is the foundation for wisdom\, compassion\, and awakening. \nIn this silent meditation retreat\, we will explore this quality of awareness—what it is\, and how to cultivate and abide in awakened presence. We will investigate how mindfulness supports a depth of awareness through various meditation practices\, and we will look at what obscures the clarity of awareness both in meditation and in everyday life. As our mindfulness grows\, we discover how this capacity for awareness is available in every moment. \nTogether\, we will also explore the fusion of love and awareness and how developing awareness allows a natural opening of the heart\, which fosters a kind and compassionate awareness to ourselves\, others\, and to all experience. \nSuggested prerequisite: one silent mindfulness retreat. \n  \nLearn More and Register

DESCRIPTION:A Benefit for Spirit Rock and One Earth Sangha\nwith James Baraz\, Rhonda Magee\, Mark Coleman\, and Kristin Barker \nThis Earth Day gathering will be a time to connect with each other in community to share our love and care for the Earth\, feel any grief or other strong responses to the climate situation\, and learn how to move through stuck places into inspiring action. A connection with community in a way that embraces the sorrows and the joys leads to a wholehearted commitment for wise stewardship of the Earth. With compassion and humility\, we begin to understand our place as co-inhabitants\, and take on the joyful responsibility to do our part to protect this planet and all the life it supports as an act of love. \nWe will enjoy presentations\, meditation\, and music\, and connect with like-minded friends who celebrate the Earth by committing to be\, as best we can\, agents of healing for the planet and all living beings. \nLocation: On-Land in our Community Meditation Center and Online via Zoom \nLearn More and Registration
