SUMMARY:Awake in the Wild: Meditation in Nature at Esalen with Mark Coleman and Lori Schwanbeck
DESCRIPTION:Are you longing to be in the beauty of the outdoors and delight in the wonder of nature? After a long pandemic and looking at too many digital screens\, what better remedy than to step outside and meditate in the majesty of the Big Sur coastline\, serenaded by the lulling sounds of the ocean\, cradled by rolling hills\, and uplifted by exquisite gardens? \n\nFollowing ancient spiritual traditions that value the transformative power of nature\, this experiential workshop will be spent meditating entirely outdoors in the natural beauty and mystery of Esalen. We can discover how meditative time outdoors leads to beautiful states of joy\, peace\, wonder\, love\, and connection with oneself\, one another\, and the larger web of life. \nRecommended reading: Awake in the Wild and A Field Guide to Nature Meditation by Mark Coleman \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nMark Coleman\n\nMark Coleman is a Buddhist meditation teacher who has been teaching insight meditation for 20 years. SUMMARY:Finding Refuge\, Finding Home: A Retreat in Nature
DESCRIPTION:with Mark Coleman\, Susie Harrington\, and Kaira Jewel Lingo \nIn the storms of our lives we need refuge\, nourishment\, and support—a place to replenish our tired bodies and troubled hearts. When the Buddha offered his teachings\, his first instruction was to go meditate under a tree. Throughout this retreat\, we will practice together in the age-old tradition of being outside in the company of the natural world. We will explore tapping into the natural stillness and dynamism that surrounds us and teaches us. As we integrate stillness and movement\, we move toward being active participants in the world while maintaining balance and ease in our hearts and minds. \nLearn More and Register

SUMMARY:The Power of Loving Awareness: Meeting Adversity with Compassion and Clarity
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness and love are essential and beautiful qualities of an awakened life. Mindfulness leads to clarity\, insight\, and understanding. Compassion is an attitude of heart that cares deeply about life’s challenges. Combined\, they allow a kind embrace of the pain and struggles that arise in ourselves\, each other\, and the world. In this heartfelt day of meditation\, we will discover how these qualities are essential in responding to the inevitable stresses and suffering that are part of being human. We will explore how they are necessary in any journey of awakening and in learning to live wisely and kindly in the midst of difficulty. \nParticipants will cultivate awareness through mindfulness meditations\, and develop a compassionate orientation through heart-opening practices. Teachings will focus on the integration of love and awareness as a response to suffering and pain. We will also inquire into what obstructs the natural expression of the heart. \n  \nRegistration Has Not Yet Opened for This Retreat \n

SUMMARY:Making Friends with ADHD with Mindfulness\, Wisdom\, and Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Do you face challenges with focus and time management? Do you struggle with emotional hypersensitivity or frustration tolerance? Do you find it hard to follow through on tasks or commitments? Or to be reliable and consistent? If so\, you are not alone. \nMillions of people suffer daily from conditions associated with these executive function challenges. Though commonly referred to as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)\, these symptoms are not limited to this single condition\, and they are often exacerbated by our complex\, fast-paced\, high-tech lives. \nADHD and related issues often leave people with a sense of self-doubt\, shame\, or unworthiness. The good news is that with mindfulness\, compassion\, and the application of skillful techniques\, it is possible to move through life more effectively with care and wisdom. \nIn this workshop\, through engaging in various mindfulness meditations\, loving kindness and forgiveness practices and contemplative inquiry\, you will discover how these challenges interrupt our functioning\, how to navigate them\, and how we can meet ourselves with compassion\, forgiveness\, and a good sense of humor.

SUMMARY:Wisdom of Gratitude & Teachings of Nature in Baja
DESCRIPTION:Led by Mark Coleman\, Lori Schwanbeck\, and Teddi Dean \nCelebrate the season of gratitude by reconnecting with nature and like-hearted humans. \nIf you’re looking for ways to open your heart and deepen your gratitude for all the myriad aspects of your life – its seasons and cycles\, lulls and storms – there is no better teacher than nature. \nWhen you strengthen your sense of connection with the natural world around you – the sky\, the elements\, the greater forces that are all around us – your mindset broadens. Gratitude blossoms in your heart as you experience the vast beauty of the world and understand that you are part of something so much larger than yourself. \nThanksgiving is a powerful time to tap into the wisdom that nature has to offer – especially for those who are looking for a different way to celebrate the season of gratitude in a way that feels deeply meaningful. \nThat’s why last year we held our first-ever Wisdom of Gratitude & Teachings of Nature workshop. Participants loved it so much that many have already signed up to do it again for Thanksgiving 2025 – and go even further in reconnecting with themselves\, each other\, and the natural world. \nThere are still some spots available at the table and we would love for you to join us! \nThrough a combination of Mark\, Lori\, and Teddi’s nature-based and science-backed mindfulness practices \, you will: \n\nConnect with the wisdom teachers of nature and cultivate deeper attention and presence in your life\nSlow down and move at the “speed of life\,” instead of the speed of your devices or work schedule\nAwaken a sense of aliveness in your body and discover how to experience a more intentional way of being\nTap into the wisdom of your heart\, body\, and universe around you in a visceral\, impactful way\nCultivate a profound sense of gratitude for your aliveness and for life and the universe itself\nExplore gratitude as an intentional orientation of your attention – and discover how to shift your mindset toward thankfulness\nReframe challenges as valuable experiences that add to the boundless beauty and complexity of life\nDeepen your sense of connection to yourself and others and the wider world around you\n\n\nWe will culminate the week with a special Thanksgiving dinner enjoyed as a group. By the end of your five days with Mark\, Lori\, and Teddi\, your senses and your heart will be fully open\, and you will find it easier to embody deep gratitude and thankfulness as a fundamental trait of your being\, rather than a fleeting emotion or experience. \n\n  \nLearn More and Register

SUMMARY:The Gift of Loving Awareness: Embracing Life with Wisdom & Kindness
DESCRIPTION:with Mark Coleman and Howard Cohn \n\nMindfulness and love are two essential qualities of an awakened life. Awareness brings clarity\, insight\, and understanding. Love is the heart’s natural responsiveness—the capacity to care\, include\, and meet experience with kindness. When these qualities are integrated\, they offer a powerful and tender way of embracing whatever arises within ourselves—in our relationships\, and in the wider world. \nIn this heartfelt meditation retreat\, we will explore how loving awareness becomes an essential resource for meeting the inevitable stresses\, uncertainties\, and challenges of being human. Through guided mindfulness practices and heart-opening contemplations\, participants will cultivate a steady\, compassionate presence grounded in clear seeing and care. \nTeachings will emphasize the lived integration of love and awareness as a wise response to life as it is. Together\, we will inquire into the habits and conditions that obscure this natural capacity and learn how to abide with a spacious\, kind\, and liberated way of being. \nThis retreat is silent except for teacher-led Q&A\, small groups\, or other practice meetings. \n\nLearn More and Register
